Stream of Consciousness Sunday - Say Cheese!

It's Week 6 of my Stream of Consciousness Sunday posts and the subject is about whether or not a picture with no face still tells a thousand words.

Who am I kidding, when I first started my blog, I thought I'd be able to pump out posts, attracting readers that could identify with my life as an unemployed Marketing professional & mother on the path to rediscover herself, find a new career opportunity and make sense of her life again. So many of us have detoured onto tracks where we couldn't quite foresee where they were headed right? I'm back to juggling life as a FT working mom & thus the subject matter of my blog has zigzagged & I'm still trying to find the right balance of material to write about.

I didn't want to rely on pics of my kid filling every post, in fact my hubby & I agreed that I would not show Munchkin's face at all. So, when I do sneak pics of my son to go along with a post, I don't say "Cheese!", it's always taken when he turns his back or I crop the photos in a way that you get an idea what he's up to without seeing his adorable little face. Protective...yes... irrational? I'm not so sure. Getting a good shot like that is harder than you think & protecting our son will forever be a priority.

Munchkin ran out of steam & had to stop & lie down ;  )
So my question of the day is does a blog that keeps the identity of the children a mystery have less appeal & draw than a blog that does show precious little faces? Does it make the writer's thoughts and opinions less marketable? Less memorable? Or is it a matter of having focused subject matter & compelling stories that pulls a blogger's community of readers together & fosters loyalty?

Do you simply respect the writers most who aren't afraid to let their hearts lead the pen along the page & their fingers across the keyboard without reservations or regret. I'd love to hear your ideas.

This was my 5 minute Stream of Consciousness Sunday post. It’s five minutes of your time and a brain dump. Want to try it? Here are the rules…

Set a timer and write for 5 minutes only.

§         Write an intro to the post if you want but don’t edit the post. No proofreading or spellchecking. This is writing in the raw.

§         Publish it somewhere. Anywhere. The back door to your blog if you want. But make it accessible.

§         Add the Stream of Consciousness Sunday badge to your post.

§         Link up your post at all.things.fadra

§         Visit your fellow bloggers and show some love.

I think everyone does what hey see best. I personally, don't have any pictures of my daughter and haven't even spoken about my family on my blog. But that is not what my blog is about. I may mention her in the future and I have mentioned my husband randomly. I think it depends what your blog is about and what you are comfortable sharing. Some people share it all, while others keep their personal life a little more personal! I read both and like both!

I agree that it is all about what you feel comfortable with. I am currently trying to figure out the identity of my blog as well, and i chose to publicize almost everything. Some days I second guess that decision, but i continue to move forward with it. do what is right for you. Cheers!

I agree, it's a very personal decision. I have like 2 pictures of my daughter up on my blog, and I mention her occasionally, but not with any regularity. It actually states on my About Me page that although I call myself an empty-nest blogger and hang out with a bunch of Mommy bloggers, I rarely blog about my daughter out of respect for her privacy.

It's all about what feels comfortable for you. I enjoy both kinds of blogs myself.

I agree w/others, the choice is yours. I don't findthere to be a difference, necessarily, in the attraction of the blog or the posts - if it draws me in it draws me in, no matter what. Some of my best bloggy friends don't even know my child's name. I DO show her face, but I don't share other details, and my hubby;s face hasn't been on my blog - that's my choice to respect him that way, so I don't know. Do what works for you! :)

It's weird. When I started my blog last year, I never posted pictures of my kids, or clear ones at least. Like you, I would find shots that didn't show their faces. Now, nearly a year later, I am posting pictures AND videos of them...wild how everyone's blog evolves! Personally, I love blogs for the writing and stories.

The whole reason I began blogging was to record for my kiddos where we've been, what we've done...at the end of each year, I turn the year's blog posts into a hard cover book...
I've been lucky enough to get some fun give aways and include some other random stuff throughout the years - and those I omit from the book - but overall, my premise hasn't changed...I blog so that they might have a record when I am no longer around to share with them -
To each their own I say...
